Q. Why is a gift card replacing paper
certificates?
|
A. Gift
cards are easy to give and use. They make a great
impression and won't fall apart in your wallet.
You aren't limited to pre-set denominations and it can
be used at a wide variety of merchants, as it is
accepted anywhere you can sign for a Visa debit
transaction. |
Q. Why do I need to know the balance of my
card?
|
A. Since the
GiftVantage Card is a stored-value card, there is not a
credit limit. Know your card balance! There
is no opportunity to go over the amount on the
card. The merchant needs to know how much they can
run your card for or it will be declined. It is
easy for you to keep track of your balance. You
can call toll-free 1-866-NEEDMYBALANCE (866-633-3692),
or go to www.giftvantagecard.com.
Also, if you have your last receipt, you can see the
balance in the authorization code of your last
transaction. It will not have a decimal point, but
it is to the penny. For example, an authorization
code of L00099 means the card now has 99 cents available
to spend. |
Q. What if the cashier asks, "Debit or
Credit?"
|
A. Even
though GiftVantage Card is not a credit card, the
transaction is processed like one. When the
merchant asks, answer "Credit". You
cannot receive cash back with your purchase and there is
no PIN. |
Q. Can I use my card at more than one
merchant?
|
A.
Yes. There is no limit on the number of merchants
you can present your card to, if you have available
funds. Each merchant will reduce the available
amount on your card for the amount of your purchase each
time you present your card. |
Q. I'm down to just a couple dollars left on
my card. What now?
|
A. Make
sure you know your exact balance before your next
purchase. When you present your Gift Card, tell
the cashier your exact balance and that you will pay the
difference another way. Sometimes the store's
register will not let you pay the difference with a
credit card. Ask your cashier to be sure. |
Q. What if I have to return something I bought
with the Gift Card?
|
A. Make
sure you keep your card, even if depleted, if there is a
chance you may return an item purchased with the
card. When you make a return, the funds can be
returned to your card. This credit is usually
available in 2-3 days. This and other return
policies may vary by retailer. |
Q. My card was declined at a restaurant when I
know I had enough available balance to cover the
bill. Why would that be?
|
A.
Restaurants and other merchants (salons, nail shops)
often authorize an amount larger than the bill amount to
cover an anticipated tip or gratuity. If your card
does not have enough available balance to cover the bill
plus gratuity it will be declined. You can tell
the server to run the card for a smaller amount and pay
the difference with another tender. |
Q. What if my card is lost or stolen?
|
A. Call
1-866-NEEDMYBALANCE (866-633-3692) to report your card
lost or stolen immediately. You may not be liable
for unauthorized purchases if your card is reported in a
timely manner. |
Q. Does my Gift Card expire?
|
A. The
expiration date is embossed on the front of the
card. Call the toll free Customer Service number
for a replacement card. There is an administrative
fee of $2.00 per month after six months of inactivity. |
